Album review: Electric Hawaii

Electric Hawaii's, light, somewhat trippy, psych-pop, looks to be a real winner for Kody Nielsen, Bic Runga and Michael Logie. Bic on drums and keyboard, Kody, lead vocals and formerly of The Mint Chicks, as was bassist Michael, have managed to make an album that's easy on the ear but with enough meat in the sound to make it a worthwhile experience.

Blue Meanies is my standout favorite, and the video is a hoot, as you can see above. Cola Elixir on the other hand is a more frantic sound, the equivalent of an aural dose of LSD. There are some real stoner influences with these guys, a case in point being the Inhaler Song but it is balanced out by Fly and Girl, which had my toe tapping for a bit there.

Imagine if you will, watching an old school 60's surf movie but way under the influence of some mellow hallucinogen. Nice...
