Are the Philippines the next surfing spot?

National accreditation for surfing coaches

Cloud 9 in Siargao Island was recently ranked 8th best surfing spot among the top 50 in the world. It marks the rise of surfing in the Philippines.

According to Inquirer 10,000 people in the Philippines take surfing lessons every year. That is a lot of wave catching. The Academy of Surfing Instructors Philippines in La Union is taking major steps to ensure that the surfing instructors have improved teaching techniques. Surfing instructors from major surfing schools were all invited Feb. 18-22 to take part in classes and actual surfing tests to hone their skills.

So are the Philippines the next surfing spot? Only time will tell us that, but at least we know that there are some top notch surfing instructors now combing the beaches.

You can find a list of all the schools and sponsors involved at Inquirer Lifestyle
