Jordy Wins Rio Pro

Jordy Smith

Via Redbull.

Jordy Smith stands 6’2” and weighs in at about 190 pounds. The guy is a titan. And while nobody would deny his technical skill, it was hard to imagine him really finding his form in the indolent conditions at the Billabong Rio Pro. But with a crispy new Merrick sled under his feet and confidence glimmering in his eyes, the big South African had some serious spark in his step at Rio.

Jordy started heating up early on (see: his 10 in Round 4), and he never looked back. With a medley of airs and big turns, and a hell of a nose for sneaky tubes, Jordy kept the ball rolling all the way to the podium. Adriano met him there, ripping his way into second place and snagging the ratings lead. Good old Mick Fanning backed up his consistent year with yet another semifinal finish. Not bad fellas, not bad at all.
